Acne Diet Development 101

An acne diet is a very interesting idea. Hasn’t everybody heard that chocolate will give you pimples? Just about everyone has. So it doesn’t seem so crazy that by watching what you eat could prevent a break out.

Nevertheless, a good acne diet is not easy to develop. Being based on your body’s responses to certain foods makes it very personal. There are guidelines, but your progress will largely be trial and error. Observe and make note of any changes in your skin. Write a journal. You could even take pictures a few times a week. At the time your skin clears stick the diet plan you were following.

Here are some guidelines to get you started on an acne diet:

* Up your intake of protein - Some dermatologists believe that protein is associated with clearer skin. This is because protein contains an enzyme that limits the production of oil. Oily skin has always been susceptible to breakouts.

* Carbohydrates are not good - You don’t have to completely cut carbs out. But you should try to limit your intake so that they are about 40 percent of your diet. This is because there are compounds in carbohydrates that can stimulate oil production. This is why so many people think that junk food causes acne. Actually, though, junk food is just high in carbs.

* Green tea is a must - If possible, drink the real stuff. The best type of green tea is the kind you brew at home. However, if you can’t stand the stuff, then natural green tea drinks will do. Green tea holds back androgen production. Androgen is a hormone that can cause breakouts.

* You must restrict the amount of salt you take in - Iodine is usually found in salt. This is why table salt is usually called “iodized salt.” For some people with acne, iodine can be a major inflammatory agent.

It is very important to watch what you eat and put on your face. If you have acne you are already aware of what ingredients are in your facial products. Those who are prone to acne should look for oil free moisturizers. Products containing natural ingredients will least likely irritate your skin. Consider switching over to mineral makeup. Many dermatologists believe that mineral makeup can actually alleviate acne problems and enhance the results of your acne diet.
