A Young Man Makes an Appointment to See His Family Doctor About His Depression and His Alcohol Difficulties

Larry at long last finally decided to go and see his family physician about his irresponsible drinking.  At first, Larry thought he would be able to basically go online, look for some fundamental alcohol info, and decide whether or not he was dependent on alcohol.  Not surprisingly, he discovered more than a few websites that spelled out some of the well-known alcoholism symptoms. That’s the encouraging news.  The less than positive news, sadly, was that Larry exhibited a host of these alcoholism symptoms.

Alcohol Addiction Symptoms Revisited

For example, Larry was drinking significantly more than usual and he was beginning to have more heated spats with his significant other.  In much the same way, for the first time in his young life he was going through sleeping difficulties.  In a similar way, Larry repeatedly felt depressed and on an ever increasing basis he had been demonstrating poor concentration at his place of work.

Furthermore, he felt highly stressed and more tense on a regular basis and for the past three or four months he displayed befuddled thinking while at work.  Due to the fact that Larry demonstrated all of these symptoms, he was understandably uneasy about his drinking behavior.

So Larry eventually determined that he needed to place a phone call to his physician and schedule an appointment.  As it happens, this was problematic for Larry because his healthcare practitioner was also his parents’ family physician.  The basis for his disquiet was this: at the risk of embarrassing his family, he had to go and announce his careless and abusive drinking behavior to his doctor.

When Larry arrived at the family doctor’s office, he candidly notified the doctor about the anxiety he felt about his excessive drinking behavior.  When the family doctor asked what was setting off this apprehension, Larry confirmed that he had gone on the world wide web and read about alcohol addiction and especially about alcoholism symptoms.  He then outlined all of the alcohol addiction symptoms that he clearly thought he manifested.

An Inclusive Physical Evaluation and Outpatient Alcohol Rehab

The family healthcare practitioner notified Larry that it was prudent of him to attend to his drinking difficulties, he gave Larry a comprehensive physical exam, and recommended that he sign into an out-patient alcohol rehab facility that was supervised by one of his doctor acquaintances.

In the same way, when Larry articulated that he had been feeling a sense of melancholy more regularly, the healthcare professional informed Larry that alcoholism and depression often come about in the same person.  Consequently, the physician also suggested that Larry obtain counseling to focus on his depression.

The Value of  Facing Your Drinking Difficulties

The family healthcare practitioner made it a point to tell Larry that he might not inevitably be addicted to alcohol, but that he was clearly drinking in a careless manner.  The healthcare practitioner then told Larry that the reason he recommended alcohol rehabilitation in the first place was because he wanted him to come to terms with his drinking issues, make sure that he prevented them from proliferating, and start to live in a more healthy manner, even if it meant that he had to thoroughly quit drinking.

To put it briefly, by effectively treating his drinking difficulties, Larry would be able to get his drinking issues under control and refrain from the negative sequence of events that could possibly lead to alcoholism.

Undoubtedly, Larry did not want to face the thought of getting registered into an alcohol rehabilitation center.  Nor was he elated about going to a therapist about his despair.  Despite these apprehensions, then again, Larry in fact felt some emotional relief for the first time in numerous months because at last he gave up making excuses for himself and finally made up his mind that he needed to do something affirmative about his drinking activities.
